I’m Martijn Oele and I’m a third-year chemistry student at the university of applied sciences Inholland Amsterdam. In addition to my bachelor’s program, I also follow the analytical sciences talent program provided by COAST of which Analytical Solutions and Products B.V (ASaP) is a partner. As part of my bachelor’s program, I’m doing an internship and because of my connections through COAST I’m to doing my internship at ASaP.
As part of the innovative nature of ASaP it is continuously putting resources into research and development projects.
For my internship I’m following up on a project which aim is to determine the composition of natural gas with near infrared spectroscopy. Near infrared spectroscopy has the benefit of a fast analysis time but needs the help of a chemometric method to extract the information from the information rich spectrum. I’m tasked with collecting data for this new analyzer and its accompanying chemometric method. For this a lot of natural gas mixtures have to be analyzed and for this task a gas blending setup is designed. This gas blending setup is combined with the analyzer to automatically collect data. I’m also investigating the effects of the measuring conditions such as measuring pressure and temperature on the collected data. With this effort I hope to bring this project to the next stage which ultimately may lead to the introduction of this promising analyzer to the marked.
