In the second quarter of 2023 Analytical Solutions and Products (ASaP) completed an LNG Sampler System for the Höegh Esperanza (FSRU Floating Storage Regasification Unit). Including probe vaporizers, LNG sampling cabinet, preventive maintenance operating system, natural gas analyzers, and calibration gas facilities.
We would like to thank Höegh LNG for their order and putting confidence in our company. In cooperation with Höegh the LNG Sampling System is completed successfully.

Höegh Esperanza FSRU – ASaP LNG Sampling System
The LNG Sampling System for the Höegh Esperanza FSRU consists of following main items.
- Two LNG probes and vaporizers. The Phazer is ASaP’s brand name for a combined LNG probe-vaporizer with its patented active sub-cooling. The Phazer prevents partial- and pre vaporization of LNG under all circumstances and ensuring the best analytical performance. The Phazers are controlled locally from the LNG sampling system. LNG extraction probe with integrated sub-cooled section, ensuring a bubble free and 100% liquid transportation to the vaporizer.
- One basic intermittent LNG Sampling System, according to ISO 8943. The LNG sample cylinders are mounted in a stainless-steel cabinet. The system supports multiple streams and automatic stream switching. The system is suitable to be installed in ATEX Zone 1.
- Natural gas chromatographs to measure the composition of the LNG vaporized sample.
- Preventive maintenance operation system AIM. The Analytical Information Module: it is a combined package for controlling and monitoring all parameters of the ASaP LNG custody transfer system. It also is a continuous and online performance monitoring tool for the complete LNG custody transfer system. It also monitors performance of all individual instruments of the system like gas chromatographs, and detectors.
A great addition is the preventive maintenance software. Since all parameters of the system are monitored, it is easy to set trigger for maintenance indicators. By controlling preventative maintenance, the risk and changes of systems errors are reduced to an absolute minimum.

Höegh Esperanza FSRU: An Overview
In 2015, the distinguished FSRU ship, Höegh Esperanza, began its journey when an order was placed with Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. The keel for Höegh Esperanza was laid on December 28, 2015, marking a significant milestone. By March 17, 2017, the ship made its grand launch, and it was finally delivered to its proud owner on April 5, 2018.
Shortly after its inception, the Höegh Esperanza was chartered by CNOOC Gas & Power Trading and Marketing in June 2018. This chartered service commenced in November 2018 at the bustling Port of Tianjin.
In 2019, AGL Energy, a prominent Australian energy company, had plans to utilize the Höegh Esperanza for a decade at the proposed LNG terminal Crib Point, located on the Mornington-Halbinsel south of Melbourne. However, due to environmental concerns, the terminal project didn’t receive the green light from authorities in March 2021.
Höegh Esperanza and Its Role in Wilhelmshaven
By May 5, 2022, an announcement from Höegh LNG Holdings revealed that they signed crucial contracts with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. This contract centered on chartering two FSRUs, including the illustrious Höegh Esperanza, for a ten-year operation in Germany. This move is a testament to the Höegh Esperanza’s capabilities, ensuring a continuous capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per annum of LNG.
