Sample gas coolers to reduce temperature by Bühler Technologies

Bühler Technologies logo

Sample gas coolers are used to remove any moisture from the gas is an important step in sample gas conditioning. To achieve this, suitable coolers are applied to reduce the gas temperature below the dew point in order to condense the moisture. To secure a reproducible analysis result the dew point must remain as stable as possible even when the ambient temperature fluctuates. The required cooling capacity depends on the temperature fluctuations at the sampling site (which may vary over the course of the year), the specific material combination for the heat exchanger to meet the sample gas composition and the energy-efficient operation of the cooler. Application specific different types of coolers and/or precoolers may be required. The coolers are primarily electric sample gas coolers, either semi-conductor or compressor coolers, the selection determined by the requirements or the operating conditions. Replaceable heat exchangers in a variety of material compositions and helpful accessories and monitors complete the product portfolio, including for EX zones.

Sample Gas Cooler Series TC-Mini

Sample Gas Cooler Series TC-Mini

Many gas analysis processes require extracting sample gas from the process. This also extracts process-related contamination such as particles or moisture. These can impact the measurement results or damage the measuring cells. The sample gas must therefore be conditioned before entering the analyzer. The sample gas cooler reduces the gas temperature to below the dew point for this purpose, causing moisture to drop out, which is then discharged as condensate.

In addition to the status output to monitor the sample gas cooler function, we offer an optional 4 – 20 mA analog output or digital interface. The process control can access the process and diagnostic data via the Modbus RTU interface as well as configure the device settings.

The small size of the TC-MINI sample gas cooler is particularly suited for installation in portable or compact gas conditioning systems. Despite the small size, it has a high nominal rating and is therefore also suitable for use in warm climates.

Sample Gas Cooler EGK 1SD

EGK series compressor sample gas coolers feature a construction design which ensures they maintain an extremely stable gas outlet dew point. At the core of this sample gas cooler is a cooling block which, along with the sophisticated Bühler constant control system, ensures even heat dissipation. The cooling system is charged with CFC-free refrigerant and is maintenance-free.

The control system keeps the preset output dew point at a constant. A display shows the temperature of the cooling block. If also features a fail-safe control relay output for excess and low temperature. These status outputs mark a range of ± 3 K of the output dew point setting. The relay output can be used to e.g. control the sample gas pump for the gas flow to only be switched on once the permissible cooling range has been reached.

Depending on the task, the EGK 1SD can be configured to have one or two gas paths, as well as steel, PVDF or glass heat exchangers. Depending on the operating mode of the conditioning system, the condensate is drained by automatic condensate drains or peristaltic pumps. Condensate traps may also be used.

Sample Gas Cooler EGK 2A Ex

This sample gas cooler was designed specifically for use in explosive areas. It features a high performance compressor cooling system which ensures an extremely stable gas output dew point, even in ambient temperatures up to +45 °C / 113 °F.

The cooling block can accommodate two high efficiency heat exchangers, available in stainless steel, Duran glass or PVDF, with one or two gas paths. Fully equipped the sample gas cooler can therefore supply four separate gas paths. Heat dissipates through a large convector, the electronic controller is moulded and located in a separate housing. A programmable display shows the temperature of the cooling block. A blinking display indicating excess and low temperature and a fail-safe control relay output. These status outputs mark an adjustable range around the output dew point. Automatic condensate drains can be installed inside the device to drain condensate.

Specifications

  • Compressor Cooler
  • Nominal capacity 615 kJ/h respectively 583 Btu/hr
  • 1 or 2 gas paths
  • Stainless steel, glass or PVDF heat exchanger
  • Status display
  • Up to 45 °C / 113 °F ambient temperature
  • Approvals: ATEX, GOST

Sample Gas Cooler EGK 4S

Sample Gas Cooler EGK 4S
Sample Gas Cooler EGK 4S

The relay output can e.g. be used to control the sample gas pump to allow for the gas flow to only be switched on once the permissible cooling range has been reached.

Depending on the task, the EGK 4S can be equipped with up to four heat exchangers of different types and materials. This allows for up to eight separate gas paths. The condensate can be drained via peristaltic pumps or automatic condensate drains. The sample gas cooler can be equipped with adjustable feet, mounting brackets, or handles.

Specifications

  • Compressor Cooler
  • Nominal capacity 800 kJ/h respectively 583 Btu/hr
  • Up to 4 gas paths
  • Stainless steel, glass or PVDF heat exchanger
  • Temperature and status display
  • Ambient temperature up to 50 °C / 122 °F

Sample Gas Cooler EGK 10

The basic components of the EGK 10 correspond to the EGK 4 series, however features a higher cooling capacity and large flow rates, optimized specifically for bypass applications. It uses a special size high-efficiency heat exchanger.

This heat exchanger is available with glass lining for critical applications. EGK series compressor sample gas coolers feature a construction design which ensures they maintain an extremely stable gas outlet dew point.

At the core of this cooler is a cooling block which, along with the sophisticated Bühler constant control system, ensures even heat dissipation. The electronic control features an LED display and a relay output for the cooling status which indicates when the defined operating range has been reached. A stainless steel heat exchanger plugs into the cooling block. The cooling system is maintenance-free. Adjustable feet, handles, and brackets are sold separately.

Specifications

  • Compressor Cooler
  • Nominal capacity 1450 kJ/h respectively 1374 Btu/h
  • Up to 3900 L/h
  • Stainless steel heat exchanger
  • Temperature and status display
  • Ambient temperature up to 50 °C / 122 °F
